Mackenzie on Film: Behind the Hide
MacKenzie Leather on Film
The Edinburgh Festival is on hold this year, but in our Old Town workshop we’ve seen lights, camera, action! This August we bring you our on-screen contribution to the most creative month of the year with a new backstage series from Mackenzie on Film…
Leathercraft is a industry that can often lie quietly under the modern day radar. If you’re reading this blog, then chances are you have a closer understanding than most – but do you know the variety of characteristics that appear in leather from one tanner to another? From hide to hide, and even from oil to fat? Between the way of the Italians and the methods in Spain, there’s a lot more to know about leather from behind the hide!
So welcome back to another series insight from our workshop bench. Here at Mackenzie Leather Edinburgh, we use 4 different types of leather to craft our core collections of handmade goods. If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between an Italian Saddle and an Oak Bark bridle, then wonder no more.
Watch our Master Craftsman, Simon, explain the various qualities unique to each kind, demonstrating which of our signature Mackenzie designs are handcrafted from each of the distinctive types. You may be surprised to learn, and even see on screen just how much variety can be found between each of our leathers. All different, yet equally fine in quality.
Each week in August we’ll be sharing a new leather video, releasing the full film on the last weekend – to see us off with a bang, minus the usual fireworks!
All Behind the Hide content will be available to watch via our YouTube channel, so be sure to subscribe and hit the notification bell to never miss an episode.
And if you really want to get to know the leather we use, our traditional workshop and showroom will be open as usual. Come and visit to see, and smell, for yourself the vast variety of quality on offer here at Mackenzie Leather Edinburgh.
Without further ado… Let us introduce our first leather, available to watch right here and now…
*drumroll*
