Mackenzie Leather was recently awarded a prestigious five-star rating from VisitScotland.
The 5-star Quality Assurance is the highest award granted by the national tourist board and is given to businesses who offer a world-class visitor experience.
The aim of VisitScotland is to boost the presence of the Scotland’s tourism industry in the global market. It works closely with businesses across a range of categories to consistently raise the quality of the nation’s tourism offering.
Businesses are rigorously assessed and are required to meet stringent criteria which cover every element of the customer experience, from first interactions on the website, to the ease of accessibility and friendliness of the team at the store.
Focusing on customers is something that comes naturally to Mackenzie. As Master Craftsman, Simon Harvey Potts, explains: “Customers are always at the heart of what we do. Our goal is for everyone who walks through our door to be welcomed into the world of traditional leather crafting. “They can see the beautiful products which are creatively displayed in our contemporary store, but also watch our skilled artisans in the workshop. When people order a product from us, they have seen where it is made, and met the people who will make it. It’s really important to us that they can have that connection.”
Mackenzie’s Creative Director, Elena Álvarez, adds: “We’ve worked closely with VisitScotland to reach the high standards they expect from their 5-star visitor experiences, and we are committed to continually exceeding these as our business grows. We are extremely grateful to the team at VisitScotland for their support and commitment to developing the tourism industry in Scotland, and to ensuring that visitors experience the very best of what this beautiful country has to offer.”

Loyal Testimonials
“Wanted to treat myself to a new belt and found this gem hidden away. From beginning to end the guy in the store was helpful, knowledgeable and informative-clearly knew his trade inside out. It’s a shame it’s a little out the way so more people can’t find it-I hope people go here”

“Really amazing shop. Very bespoke experience. Bought a belt and they finished it right there. The guys are a pleasure to talk to and work with. I even bought one of their aprons! Quality blows away the big-name brands and is a fraction of the price. Will definitely look to buy from them again. Great work guys. Truly. Thank you for keeping it real.”

I will echo what others have said… if you want something special, something one of a kind that is personally made by true artisans, this is the place to look. I came across Simon and the Mackenzie brand several years ago by accident on a trip with my sister to Edinburgh and we found our way to what was then a private studio, unknowingly, and closed at the time. Simon met us there the next day and that was the start of my love affair with his amazing work. We bought several finished bags and I ordered a custom bag (a beautiful wine colour rucksack that he changed into a shoulder bag) that arrived several weeks later when I was back in the states. Since then, Simon has opened a shop on St. Mary’s St. and hired other artisans, so glad to see the shop grow. My husband purchased a Gladstonette last fall as an anniversary gift to me when he visited Edinburgh and we just returned from Edinburgh where I ordered a Town Bag that will be coming in the months ahead. You can buy ready-made pieces at the shop or can order custom pieces in the colours and linings available and they are happy to show you options if given some direction in colour. These are not cheap, mass-produced items — you are paying for unique, quality pieces that will last for generations and priced accordingly. As you can tell, I’m a big fan and would highly recommend Mackenzie if you want to treat yourself to something special that you won’t see coming-and-going. Thank you, Mackenzie team!”
